Scentless Chamomile

“What is a weed? A plant whose virtues have not yet been discovered.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Scentless Chamomile (looks like a daisy) is considered a noxious weed here in Alberta, it produces huge amounts of seeds and those seeds can survive in the soil for years, and continuously dropping those seeds from May all the way until winter, makes this plant very undesirable!

Scentless Chamomile thrives in disturbed or bare dirt, which means in my area where there is new construction, you will see it in abundance! Roadsides, in gravel, ditches, vacant land, construction areas, tilled land…you will find this plant thriving! It does not need ideal conditions to bloom.

Which gives this plant rich symbolism for using in a Ritual! Specifically for Reclaiming Personal Resilience, and reminding yourself that even in hard times, there can be an opportunity to bloom.

Transitions have been coming up a lot lately in my own life, and when I was researching this plant I was taken aback at how relevant it was for me right now! Funny how that works right?!

I didn’t know anything about Scentless Chamomile before choosing it for my next plant to study, but when I started to look into it, I realized that is was totally meant for me, right now in this moment of my life and it has shown up for a reason.

The conditions in my life haven’t always been ideal, there have been lots of ups and downs, moments of wanting to quit, or just fall back in line with the status quo because it was just “easier”. So I would, and I did, and I have. Sending the seeds of my dreams underground, in waiting.

They weren’t waiting for the perfect conditions like I was, they were waiting for opportunity! The working of the land, the movement that brought them closer to the surface so they could rise up and bloom, like they were designed to do.

When I see a field of Scentless Chamomile growing on top of a gravel pit, I don’t see a noxious weed, I see resilience, reclamation, and the result of years of waiting for the chance to bloom.

It reminds me that I don’t have to wait any more, that even if things aren’t perfect, there is opportunity for me to Bloom.

We don’t know how much time we have here on earth, and this plant has created an impact on me, and a clear message. Don’t wait Delain, don’t sit dormant any longer! Till it up, churn it, disturb the soil!!! Beautiful things are emerging, even in the most unexpected areas.

Thanks for reading, and I can’t wait to dig into learning about the next plant:)

Delain

PS, Scentless Chamomile is not the same as German Chamomile and it is not recommended to ingest! This is not a healing plant/herb.
